Medical insurance for Georgia tourists

Doctor, medicines, hospital and emergency dentistry — paid directly to the clinic

Georgia travel insurance, 7 days from €6.93 coverage ₾30,000 — legal minimum Get my exact price

Medical insurance for a trip to Georgia covers what actually happens to travellers: food poisoning, an insect or dog bite, an injury on a hiking trail, sudden toothache. Treatment is paid directly to the clinic, so you do not have to find the money on the spot. One boundary worth knowing: injuries sustained while taking part in sport are excluded by clause 9.1.22 of the IRAO rules — that covers skiing and rafting too.

We travelled as a family, two adults and a child. I bought it for everyone at once and each of us got a separate policy. Good that it was all in Russian — on IRAO's own site I would have got lost.

Frequently asked questions

Questions and answers

Who is required to have tourist insurance when entering Georgia?

From January 1, 2026, insurance is mandatory for all foreign citizens entering Georgia under Georgian Government Resolution No. 602 of 26.12.2025.

Can I buy travel insurance if I am already in Georgia?

Yes. You can take out the policy while you are already in Georgia — your citizenship and where you buy it make no difference. The start date can be today: cover begins on the date you choose and the policy arrives by email within a minute of payment.

What does the IRAO Visitor Insurance policy cover?

The policy covers emergency medical expenses during your trip — from food poisoning to injuries. Light and Standard tariffs provide €10,000 in coverage, Premium — €15,000. For policyholders over 65, expense reimbursement is 50% under IRAO's terms. There is no deductible on any plan — expenses are reimbursed without a co-payment.

What language will my insurance policy be in?

The official IRAO policy is issued in English or Georgian regardless of the language you used to apply — this is a requirement of the IRAO insurer, not something 100doc.ge controls.

How quickly will I receive the policy after payment?

After payment, the policy is sent to the email address you provided when signing up.

What payment methods are available?

Payment is accepted by bank card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay.

Can I get a refund if my trip is cancelled?

Refunds of the insurance premium are governed by IRAO's insurance rules: the statutory right to withdraw from a contract without giving a reason generally does not apply to policies of 14 days or less. The service fee for issuing the policy is non-refundable, since the service is rendered in full at the moment the policy is issued. Full terms are set out in the Refund Policy.

Do I need to print the policy?

No, the policy can be shown at the border either electronically (on your phone) or printed.

What's the difference between the Light, Standard, and Premium tariffs?

Light and Standard provide the same €10,000 insurance coverage — Standard additionally includes priority support via Telegram and WhatsApp. Premium provides increased coverage of €15,000.

Where can I buy tourist insurance for entry to Georgia online?

You can buy the policy right here on 100doc.ge: IRAO Visitor Insurance (Vienna Insurance Group) from €0.99 per day, with coverage up to €15,000. No registration is required — the policy arrives by email about a minute after payment by bank card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.

How much does insurance for a trip to Georgia cost?

From €0.99 per day on the Light plan, €1.99 on Standard and €2.99 on Premium. Coverage is €10,000 on Light and Standard and €15,000 on Premium. A 7-day trip starts at €6.93 and a 30-day trip at €29.70 per person.

Does this policy meet the mandatory insurance requirement for entry?

Yes. The requirement is set by Georgian Government Resolution No. 602 of 26 December 2025: from 1 January 2026 foreign nationals entering Georgia must hold health insurance with at least the prescribed minimum sum insured. The policy is issued by IRAO, a licensed Georgian insurance company that is part of Vienna Insurance Group; its sum insured and risks meet the Resolution, with no deductible. The policy is issued in Georgian and English — the form border officers expect.

How much does insurance for Georgia cost for 7, 14, 30 or 90 days?

Per person: Light — €6.93 for 7 days, €13.86 for 14, €29.70 for 30, €89.10 for 90 days; Standard — €13.93 / €27.86 / €59.70 / €179.10; Premium — €20.93 / €41.86 / €89.70 / €269.10. Priced per day (from €0.99), children pay the same, no deductible.

What the policy actually pays for

Cover is built around the emergencies that actually happen on holiday: food poisoning and stomach infections, a heavy cold with fever, tonsillitis and ear infections, injuries and fractures, animal and insect bites with emergency rabies and tetanus shots, acute dental pain, and the consequences of road accidents. Within the sum insured it pays for the doctor's assessment, diagnostics, medicines for the acute course, inpatient care and intensive care, and medical evacuation where that is needed.

  • food poisoning, stomach infections, fever, tonsillitis, ear infections
  • injuries, fractures and road accident consequences
  • animal and insect bites with emergency vaccination
  • acute dental pain — emergency dentistry

Direct settlement with the clinic

When something happens you call the number printed on your policy. The assistance centre directs you to the nearest partner clinic and tells them you are coming. The invoice then goes straight to IRAO: you sign at the clinic and put up no money of your own. That is the practical difference from a reimbursement policy, where you pay first, keep every receipt and wait for the claim to be processed once you are home.

  • one call to the assistance centre, number on the policy
  • the centre books you in with the clinic
  • the invoice goes directly to the insurer
  • no deductible: the insurer pays from the first euro

Chronic conditions, pregnancy and age

An acute deterioration of a chronic condition requiring emergency treatment is covered within the limits set out in the contract. Planned treatment of a chronic illness and congenital conditions are excluded, which is standard for travel policies and is written into IRAO's rules at clauses 9.1.10 and 9.1.20. Antenatal care is not covered either. For insured people over 65, reimbursement is 50% of the sum insured.

  • acute deterioration of a chronic condition — covered
  • planned treatment and congenital conditions — excluded
  • antenatal care is not included
  • over 65: reimbursement at 50% under IRAO's rules
If your child gets sick

A policy is issued from birth and children cost no extra. We settle with the clinic directly — you do not have to find the money on the spot:

  • high fever, respiratory infections, tonsillitis, ear infection, bronchitis
  • rotavirus, intestinal infections and food poisoning
  • falls, bruises and fractures — on the playground, in the mountains, at the sea
  • animal and insect bites — emergency rabies and tetanus vaccination
  • acute allergic reaction and heatstroke

The 24/7 support line points you to the nearest children’s clinic and calls an ambulance.

What medical cases does the policy cover?

Emergency hospitalisation and intensive care, an ambulance call, outpatient treatment, prescribed medicines, emergency dentistry, emergency vaccination after a bite, and medical evacuation or repatriation if it is needed.

Do I pay the clinic myself and claim the money back?

No. In the usual case we settle with the clinic directly. The 24/7 support line tells you which clinic to go to and arranges the payment.

Are trekking and skiing covered?

Trekking and ordinary walking are covered, including evacuation from the route. Skiing is not: clause 9.1.22 of the IRAO rules excludes injuries sustained while taking part in sport — professional, amateur or extreme alike. Rafting and snowboarding fall under the same exclusion, even on a groomed piste and even on your first attempt.

Are chronic or pre-existing conditions covered?

No. IRAO's rules exclude chronic and congenital conditions; the policy is built for acute events that begin during the trip.

Is dental treatment included?

Emergency dentistry is included — relieving acute pain and urgent care. Planned dental work is not covered.

Do I pay the clinic and claim it back?

No. IRAO settles directly with the Georgian clinic. You call the assistance centre, they direct you to the nearest facility, and the invoice is handled without you reaching for your card.

Are chronic conditions covered?

An acute deterioration requiring emergency treatment is covered within the contractual limits. Planned treatment of a chronic illness and congenital conditions are excluded, as they are on travel policies generally.

Can I be treated at a private hospital?

Yes. The insurer works with a network of clinics across Georgia including private ones, and the medical centre will direct you to the nearest. The clinic invoices IRAO directly.

I have a chronic condition — would a flare-up abroad be covered?

An acute flare-up requiring emergency treatment is covered within the contractual limits. Planned treatment of the same condition is not. So an attack on the trip with a doctor call-out is covered; continuing a course started at home is not.

My 2-year-old fell ill in Batumi — what should I do first?

Call the number on your policy before going anywhere. The assistance centre names the nearest paediatric clinic and tells them you are coming, and the invoice goes straight to the insurer, so you pay nothing yourself.

I'm pregnant — does this policy suit me?

It covers emergencies, but antenatal care and childbirth are excluded, as they are on travel policies generally. If you are travelling late in pregnancy, discuss the risks with your doctor before flying.

I'm 68 — are there restrictions for me?

There is no age limit and the price is the same. Only the payout differs: for insured people over 65 IRAO reimburses 50% of costs under its terms, so a higher sum insured is worth considering.

Information updated: September 2026. Terms and sums insured are shown in the plan description at checkout.
