We travelled as a family, two adults and a child. I bought it for everyone at once and each of us got a separate policy. Good that it was all in Russian — on IRAO's own site I would have got lost.

Frequently asked questions

Questions and answers

Who is required to have tourist insurance when entering Georgia?

From January 1, 2026, insurance is mandatory for all foreign citizens entering Georgia under Georgian Government Resolution No. 602 of 26.12.2025.

Can I buy travel insurance if I am already in Georgia?

Yes. You can take out the policy while you are already in Georgia — your citizenship and where you buy it make no difference. The start date can be today: cover begins on the date you choose and the policy arrives by email within a minute of payment.

What does the IRAO Visitor Insurance policy cover?

The policy covers emergency medical expenses during your trip — from food poisoning to injuries. Light and Standard tariffs provide €10,000 in coverage, Premium — €15,000. For policyholders over 65, expense reimbursement is 50% under IRAO's terms. There is no deductible on any plan — expenses are reimbursed without a co-payment.

What language will my insurance policy be in?

The official IRAO policy is issued in English or Georgian regardless of the language you used to apply — this is a requirement of the IRAO insurer, not something 100doc.ge controls.

How quickly will I receive the policy after payment?

After payment, the policy is sent to the email address you provided when signing up.

What payment methods are available?

Payment is accepted by bank card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay.

Can I get a refund if my trip is cancelled?

Refunds of the insurance premium are governed by IRAO's insurance rules: the statutory right to withdraw from a contract without giving a reason generally does not apply to policies of 14 days or less. The service fee for issuing the policy is non-refundable, since the service is rendered in full at the moment the policy is issued. Full terms are set out in the Refund Policy.

Do I need to print the policy?

No, the policy can be shown at the border either electronically (on your phone) or printed.

What's the difference between the Light, Standard, and Premium tariffs?

Light and Standard provide the same €10,000 insurance coverage — Standard additionally includes priority support via Telegram and WhatsApp. Premium provides increased coverage of €15,000.

Where can I buy tourist insurance for entry to Georgia online?

You can buy the policy right here on 100doc.ge: IRAO Visitor Insurance (Vienna Insurance Group) from €0.99 per day, with coverage up to €15,000. No registration is required — the policy arrives by email about a minute after payment by bank card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.

How much does insurance for a trip to Georgia cost?

From €0.99 per day on the Light plan, €1.99 on Standard and €2.99 on Premium. Coverage is €10,000 on Light and Standard and €15,000 on Premium. A 7-day trip starts at €6.93 and a 30-day trip at €29.70 per person.

Does this policy meet the mandatory insurance requirement for entry?

Yes. The requirement is set by Georgian Government Resolution No. 602 of 26 December 2025: from 1 January 2026 foreign nationals entering Georgia must hold health insurance with at least the prescribed minimum sum insured. The policy is issued by IRAO, a licensed Georgian insurance company that is part of Vienna Insurance Group; its sum insured and risks meet the Resolution, with no deductible. The policy is issued in Georgian and English — the form border officers expect.

How much does insurance for Georgia cost for 7, 14, 30 or 90 days?

Per person: Light — €6.93 for 7 days, €13.86 for 14, €29.70 for 30, €89.10 for 90 days; Standard — €13.93 / €27.86 / €59.70 / €179.10; Premium — €20.93 / €41.86 / €89.70 / €269.10. Priced per day (from €0.99), children pay the same, no deductible.

Where the policy is valid across Georgia

Cover extends to the whole of Georgian territory, not merely the capital, which matters because almost every itinerary leaves Tbilisi within a few days for Kakheti, the Black Sea coast or the high mountains. The policy draws no distinction between city and region and requires no route to be declared in advance. The exceptions are Abkhazia and South Ossetia, which are outside Georgian control and outside the cover.

  • valid across all Georgian-controlled territory
  • no need to declare a route in advance
  • Abkhazia and South Ossetia are excluded
  • the same sum insured everywhere in the country

Mountains, remote regions and resorts

Kazbegi, Svaneti, Tusheti and Racha are exactly what brings many visitors to Georgia, and also where an accident becomes most expensive: the nearest clinic can be hours away. The policy is valid across the whole country and covers rescue and transport as part of medical evacuation for an insured event. The boundary to know: injuries sustained while taking part in sport are excluded by clause 9.1.22 of the IRAO rules — that includes skiing and snowboarding at Gudauri and Bakuriani, however well groomed the piste and however careful the rider. For that you need separate sports cover.

  • Kazbegi, Svaneti, Tusheti, Racha — rescue and transport covered
  • Gudauri and Bakuriani: illness and everyday accidents covered, a skiing injury is not covered
  • excluded: injuries in sport — professional, amateur and extreme (9.1.22)
  • medical evacuation forms part of the cover

Travelling with children

A policy is issued from birth and children cost exactly what adults do, with no surcharge and no additional documents. The claims that come up most with small children are unglamorous and frequent: high fever, ear infections, rotavirus, a fall in a playground, a dog bite needing an emergency rabies shot. All of these are acute events and fall inside the cover, and the clinic is paid directly so you are never scrambling for cash abroad.

  • insured from birth, no surcharge, no extra documents
  • fever, ear infections, rotavirus, falls and fractures
  • animal bites with emergency vaccination
  • each child receives their own policy
If your child gets sick

A policy is issued from birth and children cost no extra. We settle with the clinic directly — you do not have to find the money on the spot:

  • high fever, respiratory infections, tonsillitis, ear infection, bronchitis
  • rotavirus, intestinal infections and food poisoning
  • falls, bruises and fractures — on the playground, in the mountains, at the sea
  • animal and insect bites — emergency rabies and tetanus vaccination
  • acute allergic reaction and heatstroke

The 24/7 support line points you to the nearest children’s clinic and calls an ambulance.

What is visitor insurance for Georgia?

A medical policy issued for the dates of a foreign traveller's trip. Since 1 January 2026 it is required to enter the country, and it pays for emergency treatment while you are there.

How is it different from health insurance for residents?

Visitor insurance runs for the days of the trip and covers acute events. A residency plan runs for months or years, covers planned treatment as well, and comes with waiting periods. If you live in Georgia, you need the residency kind.

Can foreigners of any nationality buy it?

Yes. The policy is issued to foreign nationals regardless of citizenship; a passport is all that is needed.

Is the insurer Georgian?

Yes — IRAO, part of Vienna Insurance Group, with an S&P rating of A+ and more than a century on the market. A local policy is registered in Georgian systems, which keeps border checks short.

How quickly will I receive the policy?

The policy arrives by email about a minute after payment, in Georgian and English — the languages border control expects. There is no registration and no office visit: you fill in the form, pay, and the document is in your inbox.

Is the policy valid outside Tbilisi?

Yes, across the whole of Georgian-controlled territory: Batumi, Kutaisi, Mestia, Kazbegi and the mountain regions alike. Abkhazia and South Ossetia are the only exclusions.

Am I covered skiing at Gudauri?

The policy is valid everywhere in Georgia, Gudauri and Bakuriani included: fall ill, get food poisoning or have an everyday accident there and treatment and medical evacuation are covered. An injury from the skiing itself is not covered — clause 9.1.22 of the IRAO rules excludes injuries sustained in sport, whether professional, amateur or extreme. For the skiing you need separate sports cover.

How are children covered?

From birth, at the same price as adults, each with their own policy. Fever, ear infections, rotavirus, falls and animal bites with emergency vaccination are all acute events inside the cover.

I'm planning to trek in Svaneti — would a mountain injury be covered?

Yes, trekking on marked routes is covered, including rescue and transport down the valley as part of medical evacuation. Roped climbing and technical ascents fall outside it.

We're skiing at Gudauri for a week — which plan should we take?

Any plan will cover illness, food poisoning or an everyday accident at Gudauri, but an injury on the slope is not covered by any of them: injuries sustained in sport — professional, amateur and extreme — are excluded by clause 9.1.22 of the IRAO rules. For the skiing itself you need separate sports cover. Among our plans Premium makes more sense in the mountains: €15,000 of cover instead of €10,000 and a 24-hour phone line, which matters more away from the city. A week runs to about €21 per person.

My trip is 3 weeks and then another week later — one policy or two?

One policy for all 28 days is simpler: pricing is linear, there is no length discount, and a gap between two policies leaves an uninsured day. If dates are still moving, buy with a margin.

I'm going alone for 10 days but a friend may join later — can I add them?

No, the insured list is fixed when the order is placed. Buy a separate order for your friend on the same dates — it takes the same minute and does not affect your policy.

Information updated: September 2026. Terms and sums insured are shown in the plan description at checkout.
