We travelled as a family, two adults and a child. I bought it for everyone at once and each of us got a separate policy. Good that it was all in Russian — on IRAO's own site I would have got lost.

Frequently asked questions

Questions and answers

Who is required to have tourist insurance when entering Georgia?

From January 1, 2026, insurance is mandatory for all foreign citizens entering Georgia under Georgian Government Resolution No. 602 of 26.12.2025.

Can I buy travel insurance if I am already in Georgia?

Yes. You can take out the policy while you are already in Georgia — your citizenship and where you buy it make no difference. The start date can be today: cover begins on the date you choose and the policy arrives by email within a minute of payment.

What does the IRAO Visitor Insurance policy cover?

The policy covers emergency medical expenses during your trip — from food poisoning to injuries. Light and Standard tariffs provide €10,000 in coverage, Premium — €15,000. For policyholders over 65, expense reimbursement is 50% under IRAO's terms. There is no deductible on any plan — expenses are reimbursed without a co-payment.

What language will my insurance policy be in?

The official IRAO policy is issued in English or Georgian regardless of the language you used to apply — this is a requirement of the IRAO insurer, not something 100doc.ge controls.

How quickly will I receive the policy after payment?

After payment, the policy is sent to the email address you provided when signing up.

What payment methods are available?

Payment is accepted by bank card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay.

Can I get a refund if my trip is cancelled?

Refunds of the insurance premium are governed by IRAO's insurance rules: the statutory right to withdraw from a contract without giving a reason generally does not apply to policies of 14 days or less. The service fee for issuing the policy is non-refundable, since the service is rendered in full at the moment the policy is issued. Full terms are set out in the Refund Policy.

Do I need to print the policy?

No, the policy can be shown at the border either electronically (on your phone) or printed.

What's the difference between the Light, Standard, and Premium tariffs?

Light and Standard provide the same €10,000 insurance coverage — Standard additionally includes priority support via Telegram and WhatsApp. Premium provides increased coverage of €15,000.

Where can I buy tourist insurance for entry to Georgia online?

You can buy the policy right here on 100doc.ge: IRAO Visitor Insurance (Vienna Insurance Group) from €0.99 per day, with coverage up to €15,000. No registration is required — the policy arrives by email about a minute after payment by bank card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.

How much does insurance for a trip to Georgia cost?

From €0.99 per day on the Light plan, €1.99 on Standard and €2.99 on Premium. Coverage is €10,000 on Light and Standard and €15,000 on Premium. A 7-day trip starts at €6.93 and a 30-day trip at €29.70 per person.

Does this policy meet the mandatory insurance requirement for entry?

Yes. The requirement is set by Georgian Government Resolution No. 602 of 26 December 2025: from 1 January 2026 foreign nationals entering Georgia must hold health insurance with at least the prescribed minimum sum insured. The policy is issued by IRAO, a licensed Georgian insurance company that is part of Vienna Insurance Group; its sum insured and risks meet the Resolution, with no deductible. The policy is issued in Georgian and English — the form border officers expect.

How much does insurance for Georgia cost for 7, 14, 30 or 90 days?

Per person: Light — €6.93 for 7 days, €13.86 for 14, €29.70 for 30, €89.10 for 90 days; Standard — €13.93 / €27.86 / €59.70 / €179.10; Premium — €20.93 / €41.86 / €89.70 / €269.10. Priced per day (from €0.99), children pay the same, no deductible.

Why your home policy will not cover you here

Georgia has no reciprocal healthcare agreement with the UK, the EU, the Gulf states or the United States, so nothing you hold at home settles a bill in Tbilisi. A UK GHIC is worthless outside the EU. Gulf employer schemes almost always stop at the border. American plans that mention foreign travel usually reimburse after the fact and expect you to pay the hospital first. And none of these appear in the Georgian electronic register, which is what the border officer actually checks.

  • no reciprocal healthcare agreement with Georgia
  • GHIC and EHIC have no effect outside the EU and EEA
  • employer and travel plans are absent from the Georgian register
  • this policy is registered automatically at issue

What treatment in Georgia actually costs

Georgian clinics bill the patient on the spot, in cash or by card, with no deferred settlement. An emergency department visit in Tbilisi runs from €50 to €130 depending on the hospital, and an inpatient day with scans and infusions reaches €270 to €500 quickly. An appendectomy with a few nights on the ward comes to several thousand euros. Medical repatriation costs a multiple of all of that, and it is the line item that makes travelling uninsured genuinely dangerous.

  • emergency department visit: roughly €50–130
  • inpatient day with diagnostics: €270–500
  • medical repatriation: by far the largest single cost
  • this policy covers up to €15,000

Buying the policy in about a minute

You need passport details for each traveller and your travel dates, nothing else. No account is created, no email confirmation is required, and there is no government portal to work through. After payment the details go to IRAO, the insurer registers the policy and sends it to the address you entered, normally inside a minute. Every insured person gets their own policy even when you buy for the whole group in one transaction.

  • passport number, date of birth, nationality, travel dates
  • no registration, no waiting, no paperwork
  • pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay
  • a separate policy per person in a single order
If your child gets sick

A policy is issued from birth and children cost no extra. We settle with the clinic directly — you do not have to find the money on the spot:

  • high fever, respiratory infections, tonsillitis, ear infection, bronchitis
  • rotavirus, intestinal infections and food poisoning
  • falls, bruises and fractures — on the playground, in the mountains, at the sea
  • animal and insect bites — emergency rabies and tetanus vaccination
  • acute allergic reaction and heatstroke

The 24/7 support line points you to the nearest children’s clinic and calls an ambulance.

Do I need travel insurance to enter Georgia in 2026?

Yes. Since 1 January 2026 valid medical insurance is mandatory for every foreign traveller entering Georgia. Without a policy you risk a fine of about €100 or refusal of entry.

How much does travel insurance for Georgia cost?

From €0.99 per day. The price depends on the length of your trip and the plan: Light with €10,000 of cover, or Premium with up to €15,000. The calculator on this page gives the exact price in about 30 seconds.

What does the policy cover?

A doctor's visit, outpatient and inpatient treatment, prescribed medicines, help after a road accident, emergency dentistry and medical transport. Payment starts from the first euro — no deductible and no co-payment.

Will border control accept this policy?

Yes. It is issued by IRAO, a licensed Georgian insurer, and comes in Georgian and English — the languages border control accepts. It is recognised at airports and land crossings alike.

Are children covered on the same policy?

Yes. A policy is issued for a child from birth, and children cost no extra — the price per day is the same as for an adult. If a child needs a doctor, we settle with the clinic directly, so you do not have to pay on the spot and claim the money back later.

Can I insure several people in one order?

Yes. Add as many travellers as you need to the form and pay once. IRAO then issues a separate policy for each person and they all arrive in a single email. Children are charged the same as adults and are insured from birth.

What if I extend my trip?

An active policy cannot be extended. You buy a second one for the extra days, starting the day after the first ends. Leave no gap between them — the requirement covers the whole of your stay.

Which language is the policy issued in?

Georgian and English. That is IRAO's standard and exactly the form border officers expect, so no translation is needed at the crossing.

How fast does the policy actually arrive?

Our own measurement across 2026 puts the median at 3 seconds from payment confirmation, with 86% of policies arriving in under a minute. The rest wait on the insurer: issuing occasionally takes a few minutes, and the policy is then sent automatically.

I'm flying to Tbilisi for 5 days with my wife and a 3-year-old — what do we need?

Three policies: cover is required per person regardless of age. Add all three to one order and pay once — three separate policies arrive together. A child costs the same as an adult, so five days on Light comes to roughly €15 for the family.

My flight is tomorrow — do I still have time?

Yes. Buying takes about a minute and the policy starts on the date you choose. Our own measurement across 2026 puts the median issuing time at 3 seconds after payment confirmation, so this works even on the way to the airport.

I'm driving in overland — does anything change for me?

No, the requirement and the check are the same at every crossing. Land borders can have long queues in season, so buy before you set off rather than while waiting.

We're travelling together but have different surnames — is that a problem?

No. The policy is tied to your passport number, not to family ties or surnames. One order can cover any group of people, and each gets their own document.
